Horrible Book about CIA, Class 11
(Tuesday, 29 April 2008) Written by Chris Brown
I absolutely hated this book. I was in the intelligence community for 8 years as a civilian analyst and a 35D in the Army Reserves. I was never a case officer so I couldn't pick apart the book as well as Mr. Steele did. Though I couldn't spot factual problems with the book (i.e. class size), the writing style, voice, and opinions were so annoying I could barely get through it. A few pages in, I realized that Florida Tom has an ego the size of that state but the maturity and professionalism of a frat boy. All of his talk of type A personalities, the melodramatic writing about 9/11 and patriotism, and, most of all, the way he made getting through the Farm such a thing to brag about drove me up the wall. At times, the book was just bizarre. Sending his fiance an article about the rape in Pakistan to make up for after a fight was odd, to say the least.
